SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Indonesia currently has 10 Geoparks that have been recognised and become a part of the UNESCO Global Geopark network. A UNESCO Global Geopark is a region of international geological significance, managed for conservation, education, and sustainable development. These sites often intertwine with cultural heritage.
By supporting awareness of the presence and importance of Geoparks, it is hoped to give local people a sense of pride, trigger local business creativity, and generate new sources of revenue from geo tourism.
