SEAToday.com, Beijing - Palestinian factions have signed an agreement to end their division and form a national unity government after talks in Beijing, China, Tuesday (7/23).
The Beijing Declaration, signed by 14 factions including Hamas and Fatah, was finalized on Tuesday after three days of intensive talks. The deal agreed to form an “interim national reconciliation government” to rule Gaza once the conflict is over, and to unite Palestinian leadership to prepare for national elections. It is also a general declaration of unity in the face of ongoing Israeli attacks.
“Today we sign an agreement for national unity and we say that the path to completing this journey is national unity,” said senior Hamas official Mousa Abu Marzouk. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in his speech also called the declaration an “important historical moment in the cause of Palestinian liberation”.
