SEAToday.com, Jakarta - PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia or KAI Commuter has bought three new commuter trains (KRL) worth 783 billion rupiah from Chinese train manufacturer CRRC Sifang Co Ltd since January 31.
KAI Commuter Corporate Secretary Anne Purba said the first series of KRL will arrive 13.5 months after the signing of the purchase agreement and will gradually arrive in Indonesia in 2025.
KAI will conduct trials on a 4,000-kilometer circuit to get certified by the Directorate General of Railways (DKJA) and permitted to serve passengers.
The aim of procuring the new fleet is to increase transportation capacity in line with the company's target of serving 1.2 million passengers per day next year.
