SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Photocopies of identity (ID) cards will no longer be applied as a requirement for managing population data starting January 1, 2024. This is in line with the government's policy to introduce Digital Population Identity (IKD).

IKD is a digital electronic ID card that contains electronic information to represent population documents and data in digital applications.

The Ministry of Home Affairs said that the existence of IKD does not mean abolishing electronic ID cards, but the two complement each other and are still applied, given the condition of people who do not have or are not accustomed to using gadgets. The activation of IKD is not mandatory, but the government urges the public to continue to activate it.

Cahyono Tri Birowo, Deputy Assistant for Policy Formulation and Coordination of the Implementation of Electronic-Based Government Systems at the Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Ministry, said that with IKD, people do not need to bother showing electronic ID cards because all data has been integrated in IKD.
