SEAToday.com, Jakarta-One of the traditions in Indonesia to celebrate Ied is wearing a new cloth. And sometimes, families wear the same theme of the outfit. That’s why, during Ramadan, Indonesians go to malls, and markets to hunt for new clothes.

One of the most visited markets in Jakarta is the legendary Tanah Abang Market. People come to Tanah Abang Market because it offers many variety of clothes and other needs. And in this market, the price offered for Muslim dress ranges between 150 to 250 thousand rupiah. You can also bargain the price, and if you buy lots of clothes the seller will also give a discounted price.

So, no surprise, during the first week of Ramadan, Tanah Abang Market is already crowded by visitors from early morning. Customers have been coming in even though it is eight in the morning.

Sri Rejeki, one of the customers said, “I came to Tanah Abang early in the morning because I thought it would be still empty. I want to buy uniforms for my family, my children, my daughter-in-law, and my grandchildren. Around 4 or 5 pieces, if you buy online, I am afraid it won't fit.  Here, we can try it on and see how it fits.”

Meanwhile, Sari said she chose to go early to Tanah Abang Market so she could choose the items without hassle, “It’s cheaper, and I can pick the items slow and mindfully. The customers are also still not too crowded in the early morning.”

Some merchants said that Tanah Abang Market gets crowded starting at 11 a.m. During Ramadan, most of the merchants expect an increase in revenue up to more than 50 percent. On a day during Ramadan, they can sell between 100 to 200 pieces of clothes.

If you are interested in hunting for new clothes, try to go to blocks A and B in Tanah Abang Market. As the largest textile wholesale in Southeast Asia, Tanah Abang Market provides the latest trends in clothing with a variety of models for children and adults. (ADDIN/DKD)
