SEAToday.com, Fujikawaguchiko - The Japanese town of Fujikawaguchiko has put up a large black mesh blocking the view of Mount Fuji (Mt. Fuji) from the popular photo spot in town to prevent overcrowding of tourists, Tuesday (5/21).
The place was known to have one of the best views of the iconic Japanese mountain, located outside a convenience store. At a particular angle, Mount Fuji would seem like it’s sitting atop of the store roof.
Officials said that the townspeople were unhappy as tourists would often crowd the place and block the narrow sidewalk. Some tourists even jaywalked, littered, and harassed locals.
Japanese officials had announced the installation of the screen in late April and the town had begun setting it up since. The construction of the 2.5-meter black mesh screen that spans for 20 meters was finally completed on Tuesday.
