SEAToday.com, Malaysia - The Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) seized 14.6 kilograms of "Organic Jumbo Medjool Dates" believed to be from Israel on Tuesday (3/12).

According to JKDM's investigation, the dates were purchased in bulk from a country in Europe and then repackaged with the requirement that the nutritional content be stated on the package label. Based on the information on the packaging label, JKDM determined that the dates originated from Israel.

During the operation in the northern port of Klang, Selangor, authorities also detained a 40-year-old local resident suspected of being the owner of the business for further investigation.

Malaysian Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Armizan Mohd Ali emphasized that legal action will be applied in accordance with the law for those involved in providing false trade data, including product type, content and name.

The total value of the confiscated dates was 678 Malaysian ringgit, or about 2.2 million rupiah.
