SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The Central Board of the Indonesia’s Badminton Association (PP PBSI) will submit a written evaluation to the Badminton World Federation (BWF) regarding emergency response procedures for athletes.

This follows the death of Chinese men's singles player Zhang Zhi Jie during a match at the Badminton Asia Junior Championships 2024 in Yogyakarta on Sunday (6/30).

PBSI Public Relations and Media Panpel Broto Happy stated on Monday (7/1) that current procedures require the medical team to wait for the referee's call before entering the court. After initial first aid, the tournament doctor rushed Zhang Zhi Jie to a nearby referral hospital, 4.7 kilometers away.

Earlier, Zhang Zhi Die collapsed on the court during the competition and later died. The cause of death was confirmed as a sudden cardiac arrest.
