When entering the library, visitors will have the sensation of entering a barn house with greenery surrounding it. They have to remove their shoes or footwear. After writing the attendance list, they will be given the rattan footwear. Visitors with bags, and luggage, can keep their belongings in the locker provided.
And now the visitor can choose books and sit in several areas. The library has two floors. On the first floor, you can find fiction books, meanwhile on the second floor is for non-fiction books. There are more than 4,000 books here.
Opened in September 2023, the Pustaka Pahala was designed by Gunawan Tjahjono, a professor of Architectural Engineering at the University of Indonesia. He wanted to leave something useful for many people, which is why he named it Pustaka Pahala.
“I have to name the library, pahala is from the Sanskrit language and means fruit, when you plan a seed you don't know if the seed is good or bad, but when planning a seed it can give fruit”.
Gunawan designed the building with inspiration from Indonesian culture, called rumah lumbung or barn house. This unique feature has become one of the many reasons for visitors to come.
