SEAToday.com, New York-The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) will convene on Thursday (4/18) local time to vote on Palestine's application for full membership in the United Nations (UN).
Palestine in early April submitted a renewed application for full UN membership. Palestine first applied in 2011, although the veto-wielding United States (US) has repeatedly rejected the proposal.
The UN General Assembly can grant membership to new states with a two-thirds majority vote, provided there's no veto from any of the five permanent Security Council members, namely the US, UK, France, China, and Russia. However, Security Council recommendation is a prerequisite for such a vote.
